Resolving Oil Dependency in the Indo-Pacific

The Social, Humanitarian, and Cultural Committee (SOCHUM) focuses on issues related to basic human rights that should be enjoyed by everyone worldwide. SOCHUM studies human rights issues, listens to experts, and works with other UN agencies to create resolutions that influence practices in member states.

Today, SOCHUM is posed with the issue of oil dependency and the negative effects that it has on the Indo-Pacific region and worldwide. The war in Iran is hitting the Indo-Pacific’s economies hard, triggering energy disruptions across the region. The goal of this committee is to come up with solutions to this energy crisis in the indo-pacific region as supply of oil rapidly decreases. Members will be responsible for exploring the root causes of the issue, feasible alternatives to oil as a source of energy, and ways to sustainably power our world in diverse political climates.
